Glitz and Glamour: An Account of The Event

Hello my beautifuls, happy December!
Sorry that I haven't blogged for a while but I've been SO busy with work and general lifeness that I haven't had a spare moment to just sit down and write something meaningful and interesting, until today of course!

Today's blog post is a very exciting one, well for me anyway. Thursday night I went to the Glitz and Glamour event night at my local Debenhams store in Cheltenham High Street with my friends. I'd never been to anything like that before so I was very excited especially as there was 15% off all make up and skincare products, double the excitement for someone like me who has never used high end products before! It was such a lovely evening, there were refreshments and a raffle as well as a catwalk previewing all their designer Christmas outfit looks.
Now, I'm not going to lie I went a little bit crazy. At first there was nothing I wanted and nothing seemed to be catching my eye until my friend pointed out the Clarins skin care range. Clarins has always been a brand that has intrigued me as everyone really rates it, and I always hear nothing but good things about it from bloggers (Tanya Burr mentions it A LOT in her blog posts and videos). I picked up quite a few bits from the Clarins counter such as the Daily Energizing Cleansing Gel as gel cleansers are my absolute favourites and it smells like orange, one of my favourite scents. The cleanser is from their radiance boosting line which I was automatically drawn to, as I am with anything to do with radiance boosting. I also picked up a few other items such as the Blemish Control Roll On (my friend has assured me this is the best product for getting rid of nasty blemishes; fingers crossed it works!).
For Christmas my friend was desperate for the limited edition The Essentials Eye Make up Palette from Clarins. Unfortunately Debenhams had sold out almost instantly but luckily the very lovely Clarins girl said that she would ring Boots which is just down the road and reserved one. Trying to make me spend EVEN more money than I had already spent in Debenhams, my friend reserved me one too. Now, I'm not overly keen on eye shadow and I'm ashamed to say I own a few but never ever wear them. Eye shadow is a little out of my comfort zone or it was until I saw this palette. It's the most beautiful neutrals palette and contains a nice selection of matte, satin and shimmer shadows. I did end up buying it, once I saw it there was no way I could leave it in the shop and it is limited edition so it was a 'do or die' or 'now or never' kind of moment! What makes it even better is it costs £35 which I think is pretty good and you do get what you pay for and more, but I didn't spend a penny on it as I used my Boots points to buy it! (Yeah I had £51 worth; corrrrr blimey!).
Now, I expect you are all waiting for a picture of this beautiful palette. HA. Sorry guys, you're not getting one in this post purely because I don't want it to be monstrously long and boring for you so what I will do is a separate blog post with pictures, swatches and maybe some mini reviews of EVERYTHING I bought that day; how exciting!

Don't forget to look out for my next blog post with all the pictures and exciting stuff!

Thanks for reading loves,

Autumn FOTD #1

Hiya everyone!

You've probably guessed from the title what this post is; yep you guessed it! It's an Autumn 'Face of the day'. I just thought I'd share with you a few products I've been using recently and what I like :)

*From left to right*

Gosh CC Cream Illuminating Foundation

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara in 'Blackest Black'

17 Stay Time Concealer in the shade 'Extra Fair'

Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in 'Fair 1'

L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Powder 'Light Skin'

17 Powder Blusher in 'Plum Puff'

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Penicl in '061 Jet Black'

The above picture is all the products I used to create the look and as you can see I have gone for something quite natural by using the CC Cream (review coming soon; it's amazing!) and the new BB skin Powder by L'Oreal. I love this powder because it eliminates shine but doesn't cake on the skin, and you can add more throughout the day and it won't make your foundation look odd. I used the tiniest amount of concealer under my eyes, on blemishes and around my nose. The reason I use two concealers is because I find the Collection one flakes around my nose so I use the 17 Stay time concealer because it's very moisturising and the lightest colour 'Extra Fair' is really fair; perfect for you English Rose ladies like myself and the Collection one is very thick so perfect for any blemishes or under eye circles!

I like to keep my face make-up quite fresh and natural looking. To make my cheek bones stand out I used my all time favourite blusher from 17 'plum puff'. It's the most beautiful purple colour which is perfect for Autumn and looks great with green eyes like I have and I love the 17 blushers because they're affordable and so pigmented!. As for eye make-up, I love to wear very black mascara in the colder months and the Revlon Lash Potion is amazing for achieving voluminous and long lashes. This mascara also claims to make you lashes grow and it really does! My natural lashes look so much fuller after using this product for 2-3 months now. I pair the eye look with black eye liner and the one I chose from Rimmel is great, it glides across the eyelid like a dream and stays put all day long.

That's it for my Face of The Day post, if you liked it let me know if you would like me to do more posts like this! if you have any comments or if you've tried any of the products I use let me know in the comments below, I'd love to know what you think :)

Thanks for reading!

Current Skincare Routine

Hi everyone!

As you probably guessed from the title I have recently updated my skincare routine and have found something that is really working and suits my skin type and there are a few products which I love, so without further ado here it goes!

Cleanse
The first step of my skincare routine is to cleanse my face morning and nightly to remove any make-up or excess oils. Recently I took a trip to Boots as I had ran out of my Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser which I used every morning and night until it ran out to give it a fair go, and as much as I liked it I decided not to repurchase it and try something different. It did help to fight blemishes and make my skin look visibly clearer however, I wanted to see what else was out there. I was browsing all the skincare items as they were on a 3 for 2 offer where you buy 2 products and get the cheapest one free when I came across the Simple skincare range. I used to use Simple all the time when I was in my early teens but once I started working I replaced it with my trusted No7 skincare (which I love). I bought the Simple Spotless Skin Triple Action Face Wash. I love this skincare range as they use natural ingredients that are actually going to benefit your skin.

I love this face wash so much, it's really refreshing and makes my skin look so healthy and really wakes you up in the morning. It has tiny little beads in it which dissolve once you start working it into the skin and I wash it off with a clean flannel and warm water and I love the smell of it. I have also used it to remove make-up and it removes it well, however I like to use my No7 Foaming Cleanser to remove make up as it literally melts off your make-up!.

To remove my eye make up I use the Boots Cucumber Eye Make-up Remover Gel. I pour a small amount of this onto a cotton wool pad (I use the Boots own double sided ones) and gently sweep it over my eyes and I only have to use one cotton wool pad per eye; amazing! The only thing I will say is it leaves a slight residue under my eyes so just make sure you wash that off afterwards :)

Tone
I've always been a bit sceptical about toners, I used to think they were absolutely pointless but I've always had one on my dressing table just in case. I'd used up my No7 Soft and Soothed Gentle Toner which I actually really liked using with the corresponding cleanser and moisturiser. Seeing as I had picked up the cleanser from Simple I thought why not buy a toner to go with it? I absolutely love the Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner as it really makes my face feel clean and helps remove any make up the cleanser may have missed.

Moisturise
My every day moisturiser is the No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream for Normal/Oily Skin which I use just before I put my make up on and it makes a good smooth base for foundation and really helps combat oil coming throughout the day. I have always been a tad scared of using a moisturiser at night as I have oily skin but even for oily skin it's still important to add moisture back in to cool everything down after stripping your face of excess oil. The ones I love are the Simple Kind To Skin Moisturiser and the No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream for Normal/Oily Skin. Both of these make my skin feel so soft and refreshed, they're amazing.

Exfoliate
I try to exfoliate my skin every 2-3 days to help reduce the visibility of pores and help keep everything balanced. I love the No7 Purifying Exfoliator for Normal/Oily Skin. It's great as it isn't too harsh, I usually leave it on for a minute or two then wash it off revealing fresh and radiant looking skin. It really does help to minimise the appearance of pores and I love it. Admittedly this is the only facial exfoliator I have ever tried as I only really got into skincare earlier this year and I've almost finished this once so I'm looking forward to looking for something different!

That's it for today's post guys, I hope you've enjoyed reading it! I know I enjoy reading what peoples routines are and what products they use. Feel free to leave any comments below if you've tried anything I use, what do you think? Feel free to leave me any recommendations, I'd love to know what you guys like!

Thanks for reading!

Top 10 A/W Nail Polishes

Hi guys! ♥

As we transition from Summer to Autumn (or Fall as some people may call it) I thought why not do a post on my favourite nail polishes for the Autumn and Winter months?! Obviously there's lots of nail polishes I love for the Winter months but I decided to keep it short and just choose ten of them ☺

I don't know about you but, personally I LOVE Autumn. I love all the wine, berry and dark green colours that hibernate in my make-up draws throughout the summer! There's nothing I love more than sitting in my pj's snuggled up on the sofa watching the soaps, yes I practically grannify myself in these months and I'm not ashamed to admit to it.

Anyway enough of my ramblings, here are my top 10 A/W nail polishes and a bit about them!

In order, starting with my absolute favourite:

1. 17 Supreme Shine in Mink

This polish may seem boring to some but to me it's beautiful. The shade Mink is best described as a coffee colour with slight purple undertones, personally I think it should be called coffee! I highly recommend the 17 Supreme Shine nail polishes the shade range is outstanding, think of a colour and 17 have got it! I just recommend them as a whole brand if I'm honest with you, and actually I am planning on doing a separate blog post on the 17 or as they are now SEVENTEEN brand and my favourite products because I really do love them. Anyway, the polish claims to last up to 10 days and I'm pleased to say I 100% agree with this. This is one of the only polishes I actually keep on my nails for more than 4 days which is amazing, after 10 days of wearing this it still looks neat with slight peeling at the top of the nail (and I mean very slight, barely noticeable).

The picture which I have taken of my nail polish is different to the ones in store because SEVENTEEN have rebranded all their packaging so the bottles are slightly different but they still do the 'Mink' shade thank goodness!

2. BarryM Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Blackberry

My very first Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint from BarryM, this colour is lovely. As you'll see from the pictures and the name of the product it is indeed a blackberry colour, shocking I know would've never guessed that?! It's the most gorgeous deep purple with a hint of black and very dark blue undertones, this shade looks sophisticated and as with all BarryM Gelly polishes lasts ages on the nails, doesn't require a topcoat, looks salon professional, and application is easy. The only thing I will say about this is you definitely need a base coat underneath this polish because it will stain, something I find with all BarryM polishes but if you're like me then you'll use one all the time anyway! For those of you who don't know my favourite base coat is the Revlon Quick Dry basecoat.

3. Models Own Mystic Mauve

Oh. My. Gosh. This nail polish is the most beautiful product I have ever come across. I'm a huge fan of Models Own nail polishes and own an unhealthy amount of them, which I guess is a good thing because it must mean they're good! Mystic Mauve is a purple shimmer polish, perfect for winter because it reminds me of Christmas! Although I do cheekily wear this in the Autumn months too because it is just that great, it's leave such a frosty finish on the nails and I just love it so much. The only bad thing I have to say about this is the staying power. Models Own nail polishes are 99.9% of the time consistent with their amazing staying power, however I've found that you do get the odd shade which chips a lot more than the majority of them but with a top coat I can make it last 3 days tops; not too bad but not brilliant either. Nevertheless I still ♥ it!

4. BarryM Nail Paint in Fuchsia

This nail polish holds a very big space in my heart. It was my first EVER nail purchase which is probably why I'm so attached to it even to this day. As you can probably guess this nail paint is a fuchsia colour, a lovely deep pink and although pink doesn't seem a very wintery colour it does edge towards the berry side of the colour scale so it had to make an appearance in my top 10. There's not a lot else I can say about this polish other than the staying power's good, it's easy to remove and all that stuff so I'll just let the picture speak for itself.

5. Rimmel London Precious Stones polish in 001 Diamond Dust

This nail polish is SO festive, absolutely perfect to wear at Christmas time! It's a full coverage glitter, something you very rarely find in the nail polish world. The shade 'Diamond Dust' is a grey polish with very fine glitters which are all the colours of the colour spectrum! I love this nail polish and always get lovely comments whenever I wear it. The only problem with this polish is it's an absolute pain to take off so expect to get frustrated when trying to do so! so far there are only two polishes in the Precious Stones range the other one being 'Ruby Crush' which is a mixture of red and silver glitters- the perfect Christmas polish! Who knows maybe Rimmel will bring out more Precious Stones polishes this year?

6. BarryM Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint- Pomegranate

Yet another BarryM Nail Paint, again from their well loved Gelly Hi-Shine range. The shade 'Pomegranate' is a favourite of mine especially in the Autumn/Winter months; it's the most gorgeous raspberry colour and looks sophisticated on the nails. If you're the sort of person who shy's away from bold red nail colours this is the perfect alternative, it's not too bright and has a more pink tone to it. As with all the Gelly Nail Paints it's opaque within one coat, dries fast, it lasts ages on the nails. It's perfect!

7. Models Own- Black Swirl

This is such an interesting polish, I bought this last winter. I've always been a little scared of black nail polish because I think it seems really harsh and well a bit dull and boring. However, when I saw this polish I was intrigued. It's black with silver/white shimmers in it. It's absolutely beautiful and a great colour for the colder months, I always get asked what I'm wearing on my nails when I'm wearing this. You do need 2 coats to make it opaque and the staying power is ok but more prolonged with a top coat and base coat.

8. 17 Supreme Shine in Risky Red

Ok so the name is pretty self explanatory. Every girl should have a bold red nail polish in their collection and this is my only true red; Risky Red by 17. It looks gorgeous on any skin tone, lasts ages on the nails with barely any chips or peelings after a week! It's perfect for the Christmas months as we all know red is a festive shade and one which we all associate with Christmas and the great thing is you only need one coat with this- amazing! The only thing I will say is you definitely need a base coat with this polish as it will stain, I've found this out for myself.

9. BarryM Nail Paint in Cobalt

Another of my very first nail polish purchases, this shade is a lovely cobalt blue (as the name suggests) and is my go-to A/W nail polish. If I can't decide on a shade this is what I turn to, in my opinion you can't go wrong with a dark blue in the colder months. I wouldn't call this a navy nail polish because it isn't (but if you do want a navy shade BarryM do sell one called 'Navy') but it is definitely going that way, personally I don't navy nail polishes so this is great for me and anyone else who isn't a big fan of navy nails! This also looks lovely on the toenails too.

10. Models Own nail polish in Pink Fever

Finally, my last top 10 A/W nail polish is Models Own Pink Fever. I love this shade so much, it's a cute pink with blue and purple undertones, perfect if you're the sort of person who doesn't like really dark shades like black or purple. I apply two coats of this with a base coat and top coat and the finish is simply beautiful, it attracts a lot of attention when I wear it! Again, this is one of the more dodgy MO polishes as in, it doesn't last very long and chips after 3 days; not bad but not brilliant either. However, I still love this to pieces.

That's it for today's post guys, I hope you all enjoyed it and be sure to leave me a comment if you've tried any of the products I talked about!

Shop My Stash

Hi everyone, I hope you're all good!

So, as you can see from the title todays post is going to be a 'Shop My Stash' blog post. If you're unfamiliar with it basically Shop My Stash is where you sort through your make up collection and find old, long forgotten products and rekindle your love for them or try to make them work for you if they haven't previously. I was inspired to do this blog post because I was sorting through my make-up draws the other day (that was a task and a half!) and found SO many products I've bought recently but just don't use because I've either stuck to my trusty favourites or they just haven't worked for me.

What I'm going to do is tell you which products I am going to try out again and add a brief description of why I don't use them or what I didn't like before then I'm going to do a 'Shop My Stash - The Results' post after one whole month of using these products and will give you my end verdict. How exciting?! So without further ado here are my findings☺

Rimmel- Hide The Blemish Concealer Stick; Ivory

I bought this concealer stick a while ago now because back in the day these were my favourite kind of concealer. I had also read very good reviews about this product, I'd seen bloggers rave about it so I thought I'd give it a go, plus Rimmel is one of my favourite make up brands! However after trying this product a few times it didn't really work for me, I applied it to blemishes like you're supposed to but it went flaky and was quite dry. I am determined to make this work for me and give it another go!

Maybelline Cover Stick Concealer; Ivory

This concealer was my absolute favourite in Secondary school and I used it every single day on blemishes and redness however, as I got older and my skin changed I found it wasn't lasting as long on my oily/combination skin type. It used to be my favourite and I'm hoping that paired with my foundation and powder I can make this work!

Seventeen Even Tone Corrector Stick

I don't know about anyone else but I rarely see bloggers use this kind of product. It's a green corrector stick to help even out any redness on the face and I bought this product as I do get a bit of redness on my cheeks, it's not so bad these days as I regularly cleanse, tone and moisturise. This product is okay however when I tried using it in the past the green tone just won't blend in and looks chalky? This is definitely something I would like to try again as I think these sort of correctors are a fantastic idea.

Models Own Beetle Juice Nail Polish; Aqua Violet Beetle Juice

I absolutely LOVE Models Own nail polishes and own far too many of them. Initially the beetle juice range looks beautiful in the bottle and the 'Aqua Violet' shade is well, an aqua violet colour? I remember using it once and instantly removing it from my nails, I hated it! Now Autumn/Winter is coming I'm determined to try this out again as it's beautiful and definitely more of an AW shade.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer; Ivory

This will come as a shock to a lot of you as the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer is very well loved and so many people see it as the holy grail, if you may. I just cannot seem to make this work, for a start the shade Ivory is very dark but then again you are supposed to use a darker colour underneath the eyes to cancel out any blue and purple tones. The reason I have chosen this is because now the colder weather is coming I can't help thinking that my favourite 'Collection Lasting Perfection' concealer is going to be too drying in the colder months and I want something that is much more moisturising for the delicate under-eye area, I want to jump on the Wake Me Up bandwagon! (I may even invest in the foundation if I end up loving the concealer, who knows?)

BarryM Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint; Watermelon

Again, this will come as a shock to a lot of you. I am a HUMONGOUS fan of BarryM Nail Paints, especially the Gelly ones! The shade 'Watermelon' is a gorgeous dark green, perfect for the A/W months but when I applied it last year over my Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat (the one I always use) I found that it chipped very easily, I'm talking within one day! Very disappointing as the Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints are usually so long lasting on my nails, and everyone else's by the sounds of it so maybe it's just a dodgy shade? Nevertheless, I am going to try this again with a base coat and top coat which isn't usually needed for these nail paints, and see how that works out.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil; Jet Black

I always think that eye liner looks better in the colder months, don't ask me why? Anyway I'm one of those people who loves the black eye liner look but I always shy away from it on myself as I don't have the confidence to wear it and always think I look too done up! After getting over my fear of blusher and bronzer (that's another story!) I've decided to man up and start wearing eye liner to make my eyes look more interesting as I don't wear eye shadow on a day-to-day basis! This is a recent purchase for me and I've only tried it out on my hand so far, but it's so pigmented and glides on really nicely so fingers crossed this will work for me!

Okay so that's it for today's post, sorry for rambling on so much! Look out for my 'Shop My Stash - The Results' Post which will be posted in exactly one month as I want to give myself time to try the products out properly and there will also be pictures in the results post! Thanks for reading and be sure to look out for my next blog post, as usual all comments are welcoming in the comment box down below!

NOTD Post #1

Hi everyone, I hope you're all good on this lovely Thursday afternoon!

So, as you can probably guess from the title todays post is a NOTD (nails of the day) post. If you're unfamiliar with these kind of blog posts it's pretty much what it is, me showing you my nails of the day talking about what products I used and my thoughts and opinions.

Now usually I'm very creative with my nails and will use glitter top coats or nail effects polishes to jazz up my nails a bit but recently I haven't been doing because well... I just couldn't be bothered *hides face*. The other day I was sorting through my nail polish draw and I found my BarryM Confetti Nail Effects polish in the shade 'Dolly Mixture'. I own two of these polishes and they're absolutely amazing, as are all BarryM nail paints but these 'sweet inspired' confetti nail effects ones are beautiful!

BarryM Confetti Nail Effects paint in 'Dolly Mixture'

The above picture is absolute rubbish quality I know, but I just could not get a decent photo of the polish, so apologies about that! Anyway, the polish is a beautiful combination of blue, light green, pastel orange and yellow strands just like dolly mixture sweets surprisingly! I was instantly drawn to this polish mainly because as a child these were my favourite sweets, so of course I had to buy it.

I used this polish on top of my most recent purchase which is one of the Maybelline Colour Show nail polishes in the colour 'Peach Smoothie' a gorgeous peachy orange colour perfect for the summer! I used the Revlon Quick Dry Base coat to start with, which makes your nail polish last so much longer, I love it and have been using it for years.
I then used two coats of 'Peach Smoothie' although it is opaque with one coat (amazing!) and I used the Confetti Nails Effect paint on my fourth finger nail, so it would be a feature nail and applied two coats of Dolly Mixture followed by my trusty 17 Double Gloss Top Coat and I have to say I'm very impressed! I have been wearing this mani for 6 days now and I can honestly say there's the tiniest chips at the top of the nail other than that no chips or peeling, fantastic!

Maybelline Colour Show Nail Polish in 'Peach Smoothie'

The end result!

I must admit I was a little sceptical about the Maybelline Colour Show polishes at first because they're unbelievably cheap (£2.99 to be exact!) however they are such a great consistency, application is smooth and they last on your nails for ages however this is with a base coat and top coat! Nevertheless, don't be fooled by the price!

That's it for todays post, as always thank-you so much for reading! Do any of you like the BarryM Confetti Nail Effect paints? Which ones your favourite? Feel free to leave me a comment below, I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions! :)

Lets reflect

Hi everyone!

So as you can probably guess from the title this post is going to be a little different to usual, in other words I'm going to be addressing a non beauty related issue.

Since the weather has been so lovely here in the UK this past month I've been spending a lot of time with family and friends going out places and just enjoying the sunshine. Sounds fun right? It has been but sometimes when I go out a lot I tend to feel a bit agitated like I need time to myself, a chance to reflect on my thoughts and general life-ness.
Today is one of those days where I need to do that, it's like I've been on a treadmill going really fast these past few weeks and now I need a rest, a chance to recharge my batteries if you like.

Don't get me wrong, of course I feel bad if I get offered to go out somewhere and I turn people down but sometimes you have to be selfish every once in a while especially if you're someone who is seen as ''too nice'' like myself. I woke up this morning and I automatically knew I didn't want to do anything today, I've been working and rushing about all week so I decided today was my recharge day. I then realised that we're now in August (what the heck?!) more than halfway through 2013 and it got me thinking about how much I've been rushing around after other people these past seven months and decided it's now time to think about myself for a change and thought that you guys would like to know how I normally spend days where I recharge and reflect; and there's one main way which works for me!

Instagram

For those of you who don't know, Instagram is a website where you can post photographs and add filters to them, it also allows you to hashtag the caption of the photograph for example if you upload a photo of a sunset you could hashtag '#sunset' and anyone who is searching for that particular trend will see your photo and are able to 'like' and 'comment' on it!
At first I thought Instagram was stupid and only used by people to get 'famous' and show off their 'swag' but ever since I downloaded the app to my iPhone I've been in love with it. It's great if you just want to scroll through pictures of people, objects and places you love and can be very relaxing (until you find yourself on it when you can't sleep, then you know you're obsessed!).
Here's a couple of random snaps from my Instagram page!

I guess that's it for today's post! I hope you're all enjoying your days and enjoying the sunshine if it's sunny where you are :)
